Roots in Northern Darke County

The story of Rodeheffer Farms begins with Jake Rodeheffer, who returned home after serving in World War II and built a life centered on family, work, and agriculture. While working in town, Jake also raised turkeys and cattle and produced grain on a 65-acre farm in northern Darke County. Like many farm families of his generation, Jake balanced off-farm employment with the daily responsibilities of livestock and crop production, laying the foundation for a future rooted in perseverance and opportunity.

A Dream Encouraged Early

Jake encouraged his son, Barry Gene Rodeheffer, to chase his dreams. By the fifth grade, Barry Gene had rented his first farm ground, using Jake’s equipment along with support and help from cousins and other family members. That early opportunity gave him more than access to land and machinery—it gave him the confidence to begin building a future in agriculture.

Like his father, Barry Gene worked in town while continuing to farm. Over time, he grew the operation to a scale that could support his family. His story reflects the patience and determination required to turn a childhood dream into a viable family business—one field, one season, and one decision at a time.

Experience Brought Back to the Farm

The next chapter of Rodeheffer Farms includes Barry Russell Rodeheffer, who brought a broad base of education, international perspective, and professional experience back to the family operation. A fluent speaker of German, he earned an undergraduate degree in agriculture and graduate degrees in international business conferred by institutions in the United States and the European Union. Before returning to focus fully on farming in 2023, Barry Russell worked in corporate America and served agriculture as a Certified Crop Advisor.

Those experiences strengthened the farm’s ability to combine practical field knowledge with business discipline, agronomic expertise, language skills, and a global perspective. His return marked another step in the farm’s ongoing evolution while continuing the family tradition of investing deeply in agriculture and the surrounding community.

Rodeheffer Farms Today

Today, Rodeheffer Farms specializes in corn and soybean production. The business continues to grow from its family roots while embracing modern agriculture, careful management, and a long-term view of land stewardship. The farm’s work is not measured only in acres or bushels, but also in the value created for landowners, partners, employees, neighbors, customers, and future generations.

Barry Gene and Barry Russell remain very active in the operation today, working alongside an extensive seasonal support staff that helps the farm run smoothly during the busiest times of the year. Their combined leadership, experience, and hands-on involvement continue to guide the business while reinforcing the family-centered culture that has shaped Rodeheffer Farms from the beginning.

Adam and Gretchen Rodeheffer represent the next generation, and both are showing interest in continuing the business into the future. They are active on the farm while pursuing their own dreams and building the skills needed to serve the farm, the community, and the world in the years ahead.

Today, Barry Gene and Barry Russell remain active in the operation, supported by a dedicated seasonal team, while Adam and Gretchen begin building their own connection to the farm’s future.
